Traditional engineered quartz is manufactured using ground quartz aggregate — the primary source of crystalline silica exposure in stone shops. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1053, fabricators cutting these materials must implement engineering controls (wet cutting or local exhaust ventilation), maintain a written exposure control plan, and provide medical surveillance for workers exposed at or above the action level of 25 μg/m³ for 30 or more days per year.

When your shop processes Symphony, no crystalline silica dust is generated. OSHA's silica standard does not apply to that cutting operation.
